Scrappy. Yep, R.I.P., Scrappy. And can I just note that this isn't some small town newspaper that this obituary is in? Nope. This is the Chicago Tribune! This is right in there with the notables and the high-falutin human folk.
Scrappy must have been some dog.

Scrappy Doo I believed.. Must be an awesome dog there.
Awww, that's a great illustration of how our critters are part of our close families!! I love this (and yay Trib!)
How sweet! He must have been very loved indeed.
That had to be some expensive obit.
Scrappy must be right up there with Lassie and Rin Tin Tin!
There is an ornate crypt in our town cemetery that already bears the names of its someday occupants. Its human owners are still with us and neither is occupying his or her respective side.
BUT
In the middle is 'Rusty'. Rusty is not a child who left us too soon, Rusty is their dog. Buried in the town cemetery, his name and picture proudly etched in the marble.
When we fall on hard times, we resort to whatever works. --The Chicago Tribune, 2010
[no disrespect to Scrappy]
I think that is very sweet. When we lived in Virginia there was a local paper and just about all the obits were for pets.
Personally I never miss reading the obituary page - You learn about some very interesting people, albeit a little late.
I think that is so sweet! What a wonderful thing to do to honor Scrappy!
Will Hobbes get the respect that Scrappy did one day? (Hopefully for not a long, long time...)
Scrappy's tribute says a lot about his value to his family. He lived a long life and I'm sure it was a very happy one.
I think I understand how they must have felt about their dog. If I had the money, I'd do that for every pet I ever had.
Either he was or his family...hm, how to put this. Never mind. Scrappy was fab I'm sure :)
Vanilla7--I'm guessing for what this cost the family.
WillOaks--I loved it too. Isn't it sweet???
DJ--Yep. I'm sure this cost the family a pretty penny to honor Scrappy this way.
Lola--That's what I'm thinking!
Melodie--Well, definitely with his family. :) Sweet, isn't it?
Shieldmaiden--That is so weird! Well, I guess I get loving an animal so much--but imagine the cost!! Yikes.
Vanilla--LOL! Yeah, and if everyone is happy, so be it.
Grace--I love the obits too! Honestly, this is the first one that I have seen in the Trib for an animal. Do you know what this cost???!
Beaded Tail--I hope they made a donation to the animal shelter for exactly that amount that it cost to do this. I always adopt another pet in honor of the one I lost--I kinda like that.
Diana--Nope. Not at that cost! I don't even ask for their body or ashes back--I prefer to give another kitty a home in honor of my lost one.
Chocolate--They must be so sad. :( I know Scrappy was well loved--look at his sweet face.
Ratty--No kidding. I know that feeling of loss all too well.
Tracy--For what this cost the family, you KNOW that they loved him....LOTS!!!
Aw, Scrappy. I can't say I wouldn't pull a stunt like that if Pimp ever leave me (Which he WON'T. I have already explained to him that he's going to live forever.).
I bet Scrappy was their child.
Or Scrappy's owners have money to burn.
*sigh*
While it is indeed sad about Scrappy... I find it sadder still that we get to a certain age and start browsing the obituary page in the newspaper. What's up with that? I started it a couple of years ago. What the heck?!? :(

Quirky Habbits Increasing With Age
I thought I was the only one reading the obits.
Scrappy was certainly loved.
Cute--I can't even imagine what it cost these people to put this in the obit page! I love my kitties with all my being, but I'm not sure I'm writing an obit for the cat. I think Scrappy was their child too. Sad he's gone, eh? God bless, Scrappy.
Pricilla--Yep. They must be really, really sad.
Catherine--At what age do we start doing that?? And then I'm like "Hey! Do you know who died?....." to my family and they just look at me. Well, at least I am not alone. See what we would have missed if I wasn't reading the obituaries??!
Veronica--Nope. I'm reading them too! :) Poor Scrappy. Poor Scrappy's family--he must have been really loved for the cost of that obituary.
I wonder if he is kin to Leona Helmsley's dog? LOL
When our beloved little "doxie" passed away, we buried her in our yard and bought a gravestone to put over the spot where she was buried. Now, when people visit, they are like, "who is buried in your yard?" I keep a straight face and tell them that it is my first husband....and he made me mad....LOL
:)
Poor Scrappy. Just proves that they aren't just a pet, they are one of the family. I browse through the obits sometimes too
Jodi--Oh, I doubt it. Somehow I think her dogs got a whole lot more than just an obit.
A. Marie--I like that story! I have never buried anything bigger than a hamster in the yard--It sort of creeps me out. But I've got a whole freaking cemetery of dead hamsters!
Ann--I always read the obits! Don't ask me when or when I started that. But there are some interesting stories there. And it's a good thing--otherwise we would have missed Scrappy's!
Our pets are part of our family, so he was obviously loved. I regularly read the obits...I believe it keeps one grounded and down to earth.
Poor little Scrappy. He lived awhile for a dog though..
