Who knew?

Okay, enough about the bobbleheads of Hobbes' likeness. Seriously, Lola and I both priced them and they are freaking expensive!

Here's the options:

As cute as "Fiesty" is, he's like $150.00. Sheesh, and he's a little dog. Imagine what the likeness of Hobbes is gonna cost. I'm sure the mere girth of my little guy is gonna boost the total into the $200's and then add in all those stripes......

Option Two:

Couldn't you just see this one in the back window of my grandpa's Ford Fairlane?? I see him nodding away as we hit pothole after pothole, looking like he's gonna cough up a hairball. I'd need some different eyeballs though--these sorta scare me.

Again, this bad boy is like $150.00 Don't they have generic cat bobbleheads anywhere?

Option Three:

Now this is the one I really want. But this isn't a bobblehead, it is a needle felted piece of art. Kay makes the most beautiful pet reproductions that make my heart melt. I cannot afford the price tag, but I fully appreciate why she charges what she does--look at how much the animals look like their counterparts. Wow. If she doesn't make you wish you had one of these.......

Gees, it almost looks like Hobbes. Sigh. You can just see the Stripey Goodness, can't you?

Coooooooooooooooooool. But now I need a portrait or something of Henry. I bet he's still walking with her everywhere, ya know.

Too awesome. Hobbes in car windows throughout Chicago and beyond.

When is the Hobbes convention? A Marie and I want to know...Forget brightening winter with Twiggy the waterskiing squirrel-WE WANT HOBBES! WE WANT HOBBES!

Grace said...

I know, aren't they amazing?

Oh YAY! A Hobbes Convention! Complete with His Stripey Goodness appearing on stage!! I will be in the front row while trying not to shove...err nicely push...Helene out of the way! LOL

Oh Man....why do bobbleheads have to be so expensive...sigh..I had my heart set on one. I could just see me driving down the main drag of small town with my Hobbes just a bobbling away. I would have been the talk of the town!! :)

What? You're still sitting here reading comments? Chop Chop...get moving! Helene and I NEED SOMETHING HOBBES!! :):):)

Very cool animal art. However, I love my stupid little dog a whole lot but not enough to spend several hundreds on her fabricated likeness. ;-)

They are very cool but you have the real deal in your cute "little" pal!! LOL!

Maybe we can find some close-out bobble head dolls and just repaint them orange and stripey white . . .
FWIW, the image on my desk top is the close up of Henry showing his blue eye and his yellow eye.

You could always just stuff Hobbes when he dies...or better yet start saving and clone him. I think that is only about $150,000.
heh heh

Wow, I guess there are bobbleheads and then there are bobbleheads. I had no idea they could be so expensive.

Option # 3 WOW, that is awesome. I wish I had that kind of talent.

LOVE the felting!

OOooOOoooH! It's making want to stretch my creative wings - or something...

wow. I though I crossed the line of crazypetlady by making my dogs homemade food. But this kinda beats that. (where do I get one?!)

Helene--I keep Henry at the top left of my blog. I like his "Life is short--smell the flowers" attitude that he had. It's a good message. And there is NO convention, Helene!!! There are no t-shirts or buttons. There are no calendars or coffee mugs. This is NOT a cat blog, Helene. Really, it isn't--no matter how much you try.

Grace--Did you check out the dogs that Kay makes?? Yikes. And she makes their little dog toys too. Sigh. Man, I wish I had $300 to blow on that.

A. Marie--There is NO convention, A.Marie! There isn't going to be a convention or a special appearance by Hobbes. There isn't even going to be t-shirts. Arrrgghhhh. Why do I think there is no talking to you two???

Jodi--I know, but they ARE really cool, aren't they? I was really impressed how she captured them with felted wool. I wonder how many orders she gets?

Jo--Yep! And I have the cat fur all over the house to show for it! Maybe I could make little miniature Hobbes dolls out of his cat fur??

Chuck--Really?? You've got that on your computer?! He was beautiful, wasn't he? I wonder if his eye color had anything to do with his heart defect?

Pricilla--Dang! If I had known we could have bred him! Sheesh. Could you imagine little Hobbes' running around??

Jen--Aren't they something?? Ever since I saw her blog, I have been fascinated with them. Such a wonderful artist!

Helene---NO! NO! NO!

Sharky--And I thought they would be around $9.99 or something. Sheesh.

Ann--Aren't they fabulous??! I like to go through her site to see all the different pets that she has done for people. Her dogs are amazing. I think you should order "Duke" right away!

Tracy--I am always amazed at how talented people are on etsy. Maybe Ginger ought to be done in felt, eh??

Peewee--Click on the link and order away. Tell her that I sent you--maybe she'll give us a two-for-one deal!!!

Oh Lin, I've been down this path. I had a professional portrait done of my beagle and basset. Brownie the Wonderdog and Spike the hotness Monster will have to settle for digital snaps.

I really understand why someone would want something like this. I have a bobblehead dog that was brought to me all the way from Mexico. It looks just like my old dog. I've treasured this gift ever since I got it. It has a special place on the table right beside my chair in my living room.

Uh... I'm not exactly comfortable with the Hobbes look alike. Cute and creepy at the same time. Sorry, I always think stuff like that will come alive at night and ... well, you can imagine where my thoughts go from here.

Lin said...

DG--What?! No felted wool replicas of Brownie and Spike hanging out together??! Sheesh. You need to get your priorities straight.

Ratty--I get that. Lola made me some tiles for Christmas that have my kitties and frog pictures on them. I cried when I got them because they just mean so much to me. And that she knew that was really special. I will have to post a photo of them. Isn't it funny what touches us?

Petula--You crack me up with the animal/insect thing!! Girl, you need some pets in your life to toughen up a bit. (Uh, I still have to shut my closet door when I sleep, so I'm not teasing you about the stuffed toy coming alive)

Kay's work is fabulous and I'd love to have felted creations of all my furbabies. The one you chose does look like Hobbes but of course the original Hobbes is the cutest of all!

VanillaSeven said...

Cheer up Lin. You have the original one :)

$150? Yikes!!! That felted cat is adorable though. Now that I can see spending money on.

I still vote some Cafe Press goodies with Hobbes on them ;)

Soooo funny, I was hunting for cat portrait possibilities today & then found your post too...so I'm going to share another possibility with you, Linn
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=38332630
I'm a sucker for folk art paintings and Kilkennycat on Etsy has all the cats I'm going to need, for the moment (love the needle felted ones a lot too!)

I just love Kay's felted pieces, they are so lifelike!

Lin said...

Beaded Tail--Aren't they great??! I think they beat a bobblehead any day!

Vanilla7--Yeah, all 47 pounds of him!

Storm--I've thought about CafePress, but I didn't want to encourage the HobbesFest here. I think Helene and A.Marie are demanding a whole line of Hobbes inspired collectibles.

Will Oaks--Oooooh, I'm in LOVE with those prints! Now, which one to buy.......Thanks for the lead on that one. :)

Daisy--I'd be interested to see what she does for you, Daisy. Wouldn't that be cute--a little mini-me of Daisy??!

That's hilarious that you're looking for a Hobbes bobblehead. But kind of pricey. How about this one: http://www.animalden.com/6775.html?productid=6775&channelid=FROOG

or even cheaper on ebay:

A little Hobbes farm...there you go!

Lin said...

Casey---SCORE!! I wonder if I can order a couple dozen for the Hobbes fan club??

Pricilla--That's the LAST thing we need!
