Ode to a fence

Oh, Fence. Simple, underrated, Fence.

I love how the snow drifts up your legs and
sits like little white caps on top of each cedar board,
dressing you so lovely in winter.

I love how the sunlight streams through
making little patterns out of light and shadow.
How the plants peek between the slats
to say hello in the summer.

Fence, dear Fence,
I love how you block the world to secure the peace
that is my yard.
Blocking the weirdness that is just on the other side.

You make it all disappear
and for that,
I love you, Fence.

Awesome picture! I will have to say...I had to laugh at your line, "blocking the weirdness that is just on the other side!" :)

Wonderful! It has been said that "good fences make good neighbors." It certainly can work that way way, and in your case, it obviously has.

Beautiful, Lin! Sigh! I don't have a fence to block the weirdness. Funny, despite the proximity, we don't get to see or hear our next-door neighbours which is in a way, a good thing.

A fence good enough to keep out the weirdness on the other side will keep inside whatever is there.
:>)

Srsly, very nice poem. I like it. And the accompanying photo is great.

Lin, only you could make an ode to your fence sound so good. Great photo!

Great photo..

Yes, everything that blocks the weirdness needs an Ode!

And keep the yipping, yapping dog out!

Beautifully if winter bluesily written

That picture is very cool. I would love a fence to block out the weirdness that is my neighborhood.

What a great photo and poem! There is an end to winter and spring is slowly but surely peaking through! That's hard to remember....

I have a lot of catching up to do with your blog! Eep...I get so behind so quickly....

I think this was written by my neighbor.

Helene--He is fine, Helene. You can sleep again, my friend. I am. :)

Tracy--I love to watch the snow accumulate on the fence--it is cool how it makes a pattern. I'm weary of snow too. I'm just trying to be positive.

A.Marie--Oh, if only I could get those 20 ft high cement fences they use on the side of the highways......

Chuck--Uh, the old saying is WRONG! My neighbors are still jerks. It just helps to block them out a bit.

Veronica--I'm moving in by you! We've got some doozies on either side of me. Ugh.

Vanilla--Well, I'm not sure it is a poem or just thoughts written down. Now is it my side or theirs where the weirdness is?????

Lola--I loved the photo too. And I do love my fence. Now if only I can get the new neighbor to get his trash OFF it!!! Sigh.

Grace--I'm glad you liked the photo. It was nice to see the sun even if there was snow on the ground.

Petula--Can you make an ode to a gun???! (Just kidding)

Pricilla--The funny thing is that there is no solid fence on Yip Yap's side, only cyclone fence. So you still see AND hear her. Ugh. I hate that dog.

Anne--There is no fence large enough on some days, but it at least helps a little. :)

Peewee--Thanks, pally! I love the pattern the sunshine made. I miss the sun. :(

Fran's Dad--I'm not sure this is really a poem, is it? I don't know--I just had to write some things about the fence I love. :)

Nancy--I get behind too. I think I'm dropping EC so that I can just read and comment from now on. I'm missing my favorite blogs because of dropping. Hate that.

Sharky--Really? I can't imagine you on the other side of the fence for some reason.

This is something I would never thought of but I love my fence too. I don't know how people have "naked" yards without fences. I love my oasis created by my fence!

Oh my...been too long a winter for you, too, eh? Lin?
Very creative--first ode to a fence I've ever seen!

What a beautiful Ode to Fence.

Beaded Tail--Isn't it a nice barrier to the rest of the world? I think so. Yea, Fence!

Will Oaks--It is the little things that matter most, right? Oh, how I would miss Fence if it were not there.

Fish--I'm not taking anything for granted these days, Fish. Not even my fence! Wait to you see my Ode to the Coffeepot.

Roschelle--Some things in our lives are just underrated--Fence is one. I may just start a whole series on things in our life that make it better. Coffeepot is next!

Kathy--Well, I'm not sure it is very good, but I think it expressed my love for Fence adequately. :)

I love how you can make anything seem positive and upbeat. I need to be more positive.
