It's Fat Tuesday, pallies! Time to fire up the red beans and rice, jambalaya, and beignets (thanks to my Louisiana pally, Merry). I'd boil some crawfish but the crawfish hole is frozen solid and covered with snow. We're just gonna have to settle for what little cajun food I can whip up and a little Buckwheat Zydeco for the tunes.
It's Paczki day for the Polish pallies. Go munch on some paczkis while you tap your feet to Buckwheat, but be careful not to inhale the powdered sugar.
And while we are celebrating, I'll be thinking long and hard on what to give up for Lent. I typically give up cursing, but that only lasts like an hour and a half. Irene at work is giving up smoking. She doesn't smoke, but she says that option is always there and she's just not doing it during Lent.
I admire that girl's will.

Good for Irene! What a gal! :)
I love Fat Tuesday! Even though I don't participate in Lent, I still love those Calorie-laden Paczki! OH YUM!!!!
If I did have to give up something for Lent, the only thing I just love more than anything is that hunk-a-hunk-a-stripey-goodness known as Hobbes. And, that is something I just could NOT give up!!!!
:)
No way-never giving up Hobbes for 40 days. Can't do it.
Chocolate-nope
Cursing-never
paczkis coming-a tradition at our work.
Good Morning - snowing yet again and some more ::sigh::
Love that music! Great for a Fat Tuesday, or in my case, a Very Fat Tuesday.
Love red beans and rice. Add some corn bread and sweet ice tea in a mason jar. Yes! And it's been to long since I've been to a mud-bug boil. The last time was right on the gulf. One of the craw dads was spared and sent away free amidst ceremony and cheers of about 20 people. That was fun!
All patczki here in Polish-landski. Thanks for the accordion vid!
You can give up cursing for an hour and a half? More power to ya!
Amazingly enough, we still had paczki's left when I went to make my coffee this morning. Chocolate iced, creme filled, da best!
What time is dinner?
I think I'm with Irene. I'll give up smoking again. (Not that I've started back up again, but I do have that option.)
Why don't you try giving up something that would work out to your benefit, like say, going to the grocery store? Then someone else would have to go, cause, well, you just can't. Haha...
So you mean to tell me Joe watches skating and you don't? I mean I get the you don't part, but Joe? Haha...Mike will watch with me, but he hates every minute of it (secretly I know he's lying when he says he hates it).
I WISH we could just call of school. Man, I'm getting so sick of how work gets in the way of all the rest of the stuff there is to do in life. Sheesh...to bad you can't retire young and play while you can and then get tied down to work when you're too old to play. Some things just don't make sense...
I miss those yummy paczki... wonder if I can figure out how to make them safe?!
I hope that Fat Tuesday was fun :)
I don't participate in Lent either... Good thing since I would be horrible at giving something up!
Why not give up Lent for Lent?
Wow that made me laugh! What will power indeed :)
Happy Tuesday!
Jen
Irene is a complete hoot!
A.Marie--I love Irene too, she's always up for fun. We had Paczkis AND beignets! Yum. Talk about fat Tuesday!!
Helene--I'm giving up drama. Office drama in particular. I'm gonna sit in my cubey and pretend the world is paczkis and beignets. :)
Grace--What is with the snow by you?? Don't you have enough??!
Chuck--Free the Crawdads!! :) I like that story. I love crawfish etoufee, but alas, no crawfish. :( Bummer.
Sharky--That's Buckwheat Zydeco--he's a family fav. I think that goes with paczkis, doesn't it?
Lola--My favorite paczkis are plain, believe it or not. My Grandma used to make them and oh my, what a treat they were! I'm giving up drama for Lent. Work drama in particular. Doesn't that sound like a good idea? :)
Nancy--Guess what I watched today??? CURLING!! US vs. Japan and it isn't looking good at the moment. And yes, Joe can watch ANYTHING sports....for....hours. It drives me crazy.
Stephanie--I think Lent would be easy because you have already given up so much for your health! It think you get a mulligan for that. And yes, I bet you can make the paczki "safe". Let me know if you try it.
Pricilla--LOL! Good idea! I'm giving up drama. I'm avoiding all negativity and trying to be positive and nice. I'm giving myself a day, max. Wish me luck.
Jen--Oh, that Irene is a hoot! I like her idea though--it's a good one. She also said she would be on my curling team, so I got that going for me too.
Violet--Oh, you'll never know! Everyday is fun when you work with Irene. I like hanging out in our cubeys talking TV shows and such. There is never any office drama back there--I think I'm gonna hide back there for all of Lent and laugh with Irene.
It's been years since I've even tried to give anything up for lent. I'm such a bad Catholic girl...lol
No work drama is blissful, I can tell you from experience. Now that my friend the receptionist is also gone from my former employer, I have zero former employer drama.
How did I make it all these years and never heard of Paczki? Sounds like something I must check out!
Ann--Oooooh, I've heard about you bad Catholic girls. LOL! (snicker)
Lola--All that it takes is one person to stir it up. Ugh. I'm hiding in the back cubes with Irene and Jim--the drama-free zone.
Beaded Tail--They are polish jelly-filled donuts with powdered sugar on top. YUM! I like the plain ones with no filling or fresh strawberries. Good luck finding them now, though.
Wow. Irene is really a trooper.
Personally, I think I'd give up paczki. I have no idea what that is, but if it exists, I'll try to avoid it. :)
I gave up 12 pounds what else does God want from me?
I admire Irene's innovative thinking!
Cute--Paczki are jelly-filled donuts covered in powdered sugar. I think it's not in your best interest to give them up! :)
Jodi--WOW! Good for you! You may have a Lenten mulligan, pally.
Buggys--Irene is my idol. :)
I had my Paczki like a good Polish girl. Of course, last year, I actually made them so I am still feeling guilty about buying them but at least I am teaching my kids about them.
I got the boys' collars at BigPawDesigns.com. They have a whole bunch, and pretty cheap. They are Beastie Bands, and if you haven't had those before (I had never before now), they Velcro! Interesting, but safe I guess.
I'm giving up ice cream and desserts and the timing is perfect as I really need to shape up after a Fat Tuesday (I mean winter.)
I have it my head that everyday is Mardi Gras around your house. I wonder why?
Cajan food, Cajan food... what should I make? Is there any low cal stuff or should I just give it up and wear my fat pants today
Anne--It doesn't matter how you get them, it's just important to HAVE them! And lots of them! :) It's just "celebrating" our heritage.
Cute--Oh, I'm gonna have to check those out! Thanks for the lead--those are really snappy collars.
WillOaks--Oh, that's a good thing to give up. I hope you make it. I'm giving up drama and all things negative. I'm going to be Freaking Positive Polly. Look out.
Fish--I had my dinner all set up and my Buckwheat Zydeco cranking and the kids were not amused! :( They used to like it when I did stuff like that, now it just annoys them. Kids = 0 Annoying Mom = 1. SCORE!
Tracy--I think Red Beans and rice would be okay. It's all about quantity. Anything is okay in moderation. It's the moderation part that is tough though. Good luck!
Hah, brilliant! I just tried to wipe ash off of someone's face in the grocery store. Oops.
Casey--Irene was going off to church from work today and I told her to tell Jesus "hey" for me. We're going to hell...
