Moving towards Christmas at a snail's pace

Ooooh, there's lots of things happening in these parts these days, as I'm sure there are by you too. Busy days, eh?

Here's my Tuesday list of randomness:
  1. Went to The Nutcracker Saturday night for some lovely ballet and even lovelier music provided by the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra. Have I mentioned Dream Kid totally rocked it out on the flute? Sheesh, I love that darned Ted. He's not only talented but a great young man. He searched the crowd for us at intermission to just come by to say "hello" and to thank us for coming. Sigh. He is definitely my favorite child--don't tell Em. Even Grandma Phyl adopted him as her new favorite grandchild. Who cares that he isn't related--we just wish he was.
  2. My poor workmate Irene has been through the wringer lately. She is going through the madness that is buying her first home--fighting lenders, jumping through endless loops, negotiating and filling out forms for months, and finally closed on Thursday. She went to the house on Sunday to see if the lock box was taken off yet so that she could get possession and found the door wide open. As she slowly opened the door, she saw why someone left--the sound of rushing water greeted her and she found the basement with literally 2 feet of standing water. I'm really hoping she isn't held to the contract. Irene isn't so fun these days. Poor pally.
  3. Hey, the tree is in! Okay, so it's not decorated. Don't rush me.
  4. Christmas concert with the choir is on for Wednesday night. Man, I love singing the Hallelujah Chorus. It's the only time I can get away at singing at the band concert without embarrassing my kids.
  5. Uh, has anyone seen my money? I used to have some--you know, before the holidays.
  6. Can you die from GERD? I'm thinking I just might if they don't figure out some meds that I can take soon. Now I have a closed throat, an endless headache, AND a wicked stomachache. I told the kids that I want some Christmas Shoes for Christmas the other day.
  7. Oooh, there was an accident right in front of me yesterday morning on the way to work. That starts the day off right--not.
  8. Don't you love getting Christmas cards in the mail? I do. Why don't we send each other mail the rest of the year--it just so darned much fun.
  9. I've learned that sitting on the visitor's side of the gymnasium for basketball games really gets the home team mad. But, the seats are dead center and there is lots of room! And you can see the band really well! It's also very hard to convince everyone that we really aren't confused, just big basketball fans.
  10. Christmas is coming and I'm still not ready.

Busy days for you. Lotsa good things going, some not so good things, but you'll pull it all together and make a happy time for all...tearjerker of a video - it's too early in the morning for that LOL

I'm totally with you on #8. I think it's a little late to send you a Christmas card now but I'm gonna send you a Chinese New Year card. I'll be emailing you for your postal address.

You know your feelings for Little Drummer Boy? That is exactly how I feel about Christmas Shoes. To torture me it plays three times during my work day on my chosen holiday radio station. Most depressing song ever!!!

Keep up the steam and you will it all done.

I realized last night that my refinishing project is NOT going to get done. Steve comes home in one week, and I need to clean house for several hours every day before then to even make the place livable. I need to get off the computer and get busy. (Can I protest that I actually had a job for decent money this month?)

I just came from Graces' place with her Hallelujah Chorus, so are we going to get to see yours on Thursday? Just asking.

Have a terrific day. :)

Not ready for Christmas? Okay, I can relate to that. The tree is up and decorated -- then redecorated when Midnight discovered the low hanging (now broken) ornaments. Clara asked us yesterday if we had finished our Christmas shopping. Sylvia said, "We haven't started yet."

I'm not ready either. Days too busy for me. Our tree is up & decorated, but the house is such a mess that I can't get anything else fixed nicely. I'm so tired I can't think...

It's terrible about the GERD. Have you looked into natural remedies? So, you went from talking about GERD to Christmas Shoes. Pretty funny. And sad.

Amber and I saw the Nutcracker on her campus Saturday. It was pretty darn good. That's about as Christmasy as I get. Oh, Frankie's car was totalled, but he's okay so I guess it's the "season" for accidents. He was on his way to work too.

Smooches!

I have been on the visitor's side too, for the same reason, the view!

Poor Irene. I hope she has some kind of recourse. I wonder if they disclosed a problem with water or not. Two feet would be an indication this is not a new problem.

Don't they have to have inspectors in to find any problem areas, I know they do here. I Like reading random thoughts and I'm as ready for Christmas as I'm ever likely to be. I saw stuff at the pet store to keep cats and trees apart of course I have no clue of the effectiveness.

Sorry to hear your not feeling well Lin...I have heard that GERD is very difficult to manage medically.

So very sorry to hear about Irene's new place. That should be one of the most exciting times of her life...very disappointing...good luck to her!

Glad the tree is up...ya know what happen to starting a new tradition of the "bare" tree. Anything goes these days. I was in Menards today and they had an upside-down, decorated to the hill tree. Strangest thing I'd ever seen. Have you seen it?

See you Wednesday at the CHRISTMAS concert! Emphasis on CHRISTMAS!

Don't feel bad I'm not ready either and the way it's looking I never will be. Maybe your money is off somewhere with mine, if you find yours could you send mine back home?...lol

Did you ever notice GERD sounds like a belch?

So sorry you are not faring well.

My tree is done, such as it is. Haven't baked yet, still sewing, mostly wrapped. You know it will all get done..or not!

Grace--Oh, sorry, Grace. I actually hate that song because it is soooo darned sappy. Although if they don't fix the GERD soon, I'm really gonna want those Christmas shoes.

Veronica--Ooooh, will you send me a red envelope with lots of cash too??? We have a huge Chinese population at work and I'm all up on that one. :)

Jodi--Don't you just HATE that song??? I do--it's soooo sappy. I tell my family I want Christmas Shoes so that I get a little sympathy for the GERD. Unless you got a bloody stump, there is no sympathy for the Mom.

Sharky--Something had to give, right? I'm telling you, he's not gonna care what the house looks like as long as you are there with his favorite meal awaiting. :)

Sandee--I LOVED that video! I'm gonna sing and LOUD, but I don't think anyone is going to video me unfortunately. Just imagine the loveliness in your head. :)

Chuck--I was all set to go shopping tonight and then all hell broke loose here. Now I'm mad/sad/disappointed/crabby and not doing my shopping. Ugh.

Petula--If they don't fix the GERD, I'm thinking Christmas Shoes are the only thing I'm gonna want. I'm this close to death here, but nobody knows it. If I'm not bleeding, they don't know you are suffering. Ugh. Hope Frankie is okay. How scary!! The Nutcracker was fab and so was the Symphony. It also helps knowing that Ted had the flute solos--that just made it more special.

Violet--Go Visitors! We don't holler or anything over there--we are subtle. It is the BEST view ever! I guess a pipe had burst and it was running for more than a day (yeah, no kidding)so the contract is void until they decide whether to fix it or she decides to ditch the house. She is very sad and that makes me sad.

Jude--She had it inspected and a final walk-through and all, it was just a freak happening. I hope she can work it out and get her house after all. I did offer to buy her a duck and some fish for her basement, but she wasn't too interested.

Wendy--Oh yeah! I'm ready for the Christmas Concert! Can't wait!! It's always so lovely. I haven't seen that upside down tree--but we may have one if the cats have any say. :) So far, nobody has really bothered the tree. Whew!

Ann--I'm hoping our money is off on some exotic island making more money!! LOL! Hey, money! Come home soon!!

Pricilla--Yeah. GERD is such a droll name and it gets no sympathy from the family. I need something much more dramatic for this bunch! How about Severe Throat Constriction with Abdominal Tenderitis? Or a bloody stump will do. Sigh.

Buggys--If I stay mad at the kids much longer my shopping is gonna be done really fast! Look at you SEWING for Christmas! Wow.

If you think you aren't ready, I haven't bought the FIRST gift. I'm up you-know-what creek. Sad thing is I do this to myself every year :(

Lin- ha! thanks for the encouragement, but I forget that you don't understand the scope of the problem. I am in the running for the worlds' biggest mess-maker. We are not talking "clean," we are talking- if the boy (some boy- he's 35) can get in the door there is no place to sit down, and he's larger than we are... he may not be able to navigate the isles between the piles. I think I need to address this issue just a tad.

Lin said...

Vanilla7--YES! How good are you at putting up the lights?? We'll get to it someday, we just haven't been home to do it. Uh, bring lots of warm clothes--it is freezing here!

Roschelle--OMG, you should have seen the mall today! PACKED! I was thinking "Don't you people have jobs??" and then I thought "If you don't have jobs, what are you doing HERE??!" Get going, Roschelle. And would you mind picking up a few things for me while you are there?

Sharky--Uh oh, sounds like an intervention! Hope I don't see you on "Hoarders" this week. :) Get tossin', pally! Time's a tickin'!

Sharkbytes (TM) said...

Ha! And I just noticed that I misspelled "aisles." Or not... it was getting dense enough that "isles between the piles" might not have been too far off.

Om got in a cleaning frenzy today... on his half of the house, of course, so some sections now look quite nice. But of course that disgorged other misplaced objects into my section.

I gave up on my refinishing project on Monday and put the kitchen cabinet back together. That freed up most of the dining room where all its contents were stored. And some of the kitchen floor got washed. So it looked like I was making headway. Then Om went berserk. Now I have a temp job (and I can't complain about THAT), but they want this done by Jan 1, and it isn't physically possible (I'm hoping the guy figures that out without me telling him), but I need to do as much as I can.

I'm just a little wound up tonight. Can you tell?

Sharky--Go, Sharky, GO! It sounds like you are in high gear!

Yes, I love getting Xmas cards in the mail but I feel like I got gypped this year. Maybe I was a bad friend cause the quantity went waaaaaaaaay down. I just sent ours out today though so it's my fault.

Seeing an accident first hand is really jarring, I know. I almost had someone hit me head on the other day when he ran a light. Luckily for me, I saw him and swerved and also, the kids weren't with me. Phew.

Let us know about Irene. That's horrible.
