The band performed well Friday night as well. The rain disappeared and a sunny sky replaced the dreariness just in time for the line of parents and miscellaneous marimbas and percussion instruments to make their snaky way to the field for the performance. It felt good to be back laughing with the other parents and sitting in the stands and cheering our kids on. It was like those 9 months away never existed. It's funny how we pick right back up from where we left off.
It's good that I had such a great weekend catching up as I'm in for a very special treat today--jury duty. Yes, that perennial favorite pastime of all time--sitting for hours, trapped in a room full of strangers, listening to Oprah blather on about her next brainwashing, and waiting and hoping not to be called in for questioning. Oh yeah, I can barely contain my enthusiasm. Criminy, does prayer work in these situations? I mean, does God really hear my prayers to get me out of there unscathed or is he silently chuckling up there, snickering that I'm suffering so?
So, while I'm dying in there, I wish you all a very happy Monday. May you be able to listen to your Ipods if you wish, watch a channel on TV that is of your choosing, take a nap if you are bored, and may you collect more than $17 for a day's work. I'll be sure to find some humor in the situation and report back to you all. I'm bringing a journal for notes--I'm sure that place is gonna be loaded with characters.
Keep your fingers crossed that I'm not selected.

Oooohhh...don't have too much fun, Lin. I'll be thinking of you while I am outside soaking up some nice, fresh air and sunshine... lounging and reading a good book...just kidding...I'll be inside scrubbing the tub and cleaning the shower curtain. Wanna trade! LOL
:)
Fingers are crossed. I look forward to some interesting stories.
Hope you get some cool stuff since you have to be there anyway! LOL!
Gosh, sorry Lin. Actually the last time I was called for jury duty I kind of enjoyed the anonymity and the time away from telephones and people needing me. Silver lining you know! Can't wait for a good story.
*fingers crossed*
and when you said football...I thought, what? Bears didn't play Friday night ;)
Crossing my fingers (and sending up a few prayers) that you don't get chosen. But, while you're there, take some good notes. As you said, that room should be FULL of characters!
Jen
May this day be short,
No runs, no hits, no duty,
No trial to endure.
The next time you get called for jury duty, take Hobbes along and tell them that he will be advising you on how to vote on the case. That is, unless you really want to serve and stay out of the nut-hut, of course.
Ugh...I hope you don't get selected. Jury duty is the pits. I always get that sick feeling in my stomach when we open the mailbox and find the dreaded JURY SUMMONS. Hope you brought along a good book to read.
Oooh, man. I called two years in a row when I lived in NJ. The first year I got put on a jury the second year I was lucky.
Now I can't drive and therefore don't get called.
Good luck. People watching IS entertaining!
Awesome that the team finally had a win.
How come all the people who hate jury duty get picked and those who'd enjoy it don't? I'd love to get picked. It would definitely spice up my day. Of course so would just about anything. I'm so jealous of all your primo people watching today! And if you get called in for questioning, that's like people watching heaven watching other potential jurors trying to skew their answers so they don't get picked.
If I looked up correctly, you're in Cook, not Will, so you get to enjoy downtown for the day. Bonus! (See, there are silver linings, sometimes you just have to look harder than others.)
I'm waiting for the first time to get called in Will.
I know, I'm sick. Lol!
My jury duty this year was horrible at least I have comfort in knowing they can't call me for another 3 years. The bad part is if they select you for a jury and it's over quick they can throw you right back in and select you for another and another and another. I had always thought if you got picked for one then you were done and could go home boy was I wrong.
A. Marie--Uh, I'd take housecleaning over jury duty any day. Really. At least you can sing out loud or call someone you know. Everyone is just so somber at the court house. Good news though--they released us right after lunch! Hooray!
Merry--Stories tomorrow! And they let us out at 1:00! Hooray!
Jo--I didn't have much time--they let us out at 1:00! Hooray/boo!
Buggys--It is nice to get away from the routine--IF you knew you wouldn't be put on a jury. It's the unknown that is frazzling.
Stacie--High school, Stacie. That's about all I can handle, and even then I bail early. :)
Jen--That place is a hotbed of interesting characters for blogs or novels. Right up there with the laundromat. We were busted out early though, so not much writing got done. Yea/Boo!
Chuck--That is GREAT! I was actually thinking of writing some haikus while I was sitting there--no time though, they let us out early!
Fish--LOL! I think I'm nutty enough to get off on my own, don't you think??! I can just see their faces now....
Split Rock--I watched a bit of daytime TV (ugh) and read a little. And then they sprung us early!! Hooray!
Pricilla--It was very interesting to say the least. What amazed me is everyone strolling in like 45 mins late! What??! Oh, I got out early!! Hooray!
Lola--LOSER! My mom does the same thing--she LOVES jury duty! What is with that??! I had Bridgeview, believe it or not. I could have went home for lunch! Oh--got out early too! Yeehaw! :)
Jude--Yeah, they do that here too--you can get tossed right back in. And they can call you every year here. Ugh. I got out early though, so I am relieved! Whew!
You have my sympathy - I did the jury duty horror show a couple of months ago - as badly run as the city of Philadelphia is, the court system is worse...
You know, I'm almost afraid to think about or talk about jury duty for fear it will somehow jinx myself and I'll receive a letter myself.
Hope you had a fun day Linny!
Miss you lots...
xoxo!
Loser? And comparing me to your mother when I am only 2 years your senior? Thems fightin' words!
Can I help it if I don't have a life?
I have only had to endure jury selection once. Instead of Oprah I got to watch Hurricane Katrina take out New Orleans. I was lucky, I was not picked. How 'bout you? Did you slide by unnoticed?
Crossing my fingers. I've never done jury duty before.
Looking forward to some interesting stories.
Have fun! :)
If you get picked (and it's only an if), you will have a target rich environment for blogging. Could be a blessing in disguise (or at least good for a laugh).
Grace--It wasn't bad today, really. The employees were pleasant and they let us out early without anyone being called. Can't complain about that one!
Violet--LOL! It's the unspoken word....arrrgghhh! Hope I didn't jinx you!
Abby--Oh, fun galore! :) Miss you too, Abby!
Lola--LOL! I'm thinking they should pay homeless, unemployed, welfare recepients, and those who want to go? Wouldn't that be a solution?? Of course, I wouldn't want these people to decide my future. I'm just saying..
Jodi--Out by 1:00!! Nobody was picked!! Hooray! I got lucky. Very lucky.
Veronica--It's just my luck that they didn't have any trials today. We only sat for a couple of hours before they let us go. I was happy, yet bummed.
Storm--Oh yes! At least it was near my house and I didn't get called. :) Whew!
Hopefully you'll get a nice interesting case with maybe a crazy guy or something.
Can't wait to hear your stories! I haven't been picked for jury duty since college and I am so grateful!
I must admit I have always wanted to be selected for jury duty. Once I received a notice and had to call an automated number every Monday morning after 10.
I did that four Mondays in a row only to find out I'd been dismissed. I didn't even make into the court house. This was around the time of the OJ debacle -- a little bit after, I think -- and I was just dying to be on a jury of any sort.
Nuthin'.
So I'll hope for you and I'll hope for me.
Tee hee hee. I'm actually jealous of your jury duty since I've always wanted to sit in the jury and scream "I think he did it!!!".
Ratty--No such luck. :( Not even a good story out of the day.
Beaded Tail--I got lucky on this one. Not only was it the local court house, but it was a dead day. Not good for a posting, but good for coming home early!
CG--I hate the calling thing--I always have to go. Ugh. So I packed up a billion things to do and headed there, only to be sent home early. It's not like I'm complaining or anything though.
Casey--I always sit there for the day and never get called for questioning. I think that would be a tad bit more exciting than just reading for a day. But I'm glad it's over!
Yay...football season is back...I love it...I am going to miss it next year.
But I am still sick from the rains of last weekend...from before the start until after the finish of the game...
I like your blog, Lin. I got here from "Beyond Left Field" and I will be back:)
Have a good weekend.
