King of the Hill

It seems like there is posturing, infighting, scheming, and establishing your position in hierarchy everywhere. Even at the kitty climber.

I used to belong to this quilt guild years ago and who would have thought that the sweet old ladies there would be so willing to draw blood? And not by needle pricks either. Geesh. As a board member, I was in charge of bringing quilters in to the guild for presentations, lectures, and classes and I could never seem to make anyone happy. If we brought in an Quilt Artist, the traditional gals were mad. If we brought in a traditional quilter, the artsy quilters were mad. Someone was always huffing and puffing about something. But, come time to volunteer to do the job next year........cricket, cricket. All of a sudden, everyone is busy.

I hated the PTA for the same reasons. Everyone was fighting for control--who was going to be President, Vice-President, etc. Who was going to "run" the PTA. There was more concern about who was "in control" of the damn money than what was the best interest of the kids. No surprise it folded a few years ago after everyone got sick of the fighting.

There's no need to even discuss the politics of the lovely state of Illinois currently. Talk about infighting! Criminy, the Governor is out on bail for god's sake. It's exhausting to read, listen, or watch the news---you need a scorecard just to keep track of who's in charge and of what these days.

I'm tired today and maybe it was that going back to work stuff that has made me so cranky. I'm tired of the whole world posturing and manipulating, even the silly part-time job has folks with their undies in a bunch. I'm sick of the kids bickering over the Wii and the laptop. The cats are chasing each other and hissing non-stop---well, Grace is hissing, not Hobbes. Cars are cutting each other off and passing dangerously close to be first at the light. Sheesh. So much for Peace, goodwill towards men. It's only January 5th and we're back at it.

I'm going over to Jodi's--she got a new cocktail cookbook for Christmas! And I won't even fight her on what drinks to make me.

Yea, that's not good. Try to go zen and ignore everything. I hope you got to enjoy a tasty drink!

Have one for me. I heard on the news this morning that this (the first Monday of the new year) is the most stressful day of the year. Maybe it will all be better from here on in? We can only hope!

Things aren't any better in my part of the world either. This morning, my alarm clock didn't go off and I was still snoring away until the car-pool lady woke me up with a telephone call, wondering why my boys weren't waiting at their usual place where she'd pick them up for school!

Lin, I use to think that it was funny when all the old people use to fight at the bingo games. That was, until one very old lady had enough and pulled a gun and shot someone.

People get way too uptight for the wrong reason.

BTW, have a drink for me.
